Hello,
I am a new user & trying to install/use PP for the first time. I believe I have installed it correctly but I am having a problem similar to the one described in the FAQ here:
http://www.pixelpost.org/faq/faq.php?answer=12&cat_name=Installation&category_i d=2#12
The error message I am getting is slightly different than the one in the FAQ. I am getting this:
Warning: imagejpeg(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/someuser/someuser/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/includes/functions.php on line 92
Warning: chmod(): No such file or directory in /home/someuser/someuser/bearzimages.com/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/includes/functions.php on line 94
The only difference (that I can tell) between this error message & the one in the FAQ is the "on line section" at the end of each line. Mine being:
on line 92
on line 94
Instead of as it is in the FAQ:
on line 1183
on line 1185
????????
With all this said, I am on dreamhost & after reading the FAQ I have disabled the mod_security apache module (aka "Extra Web Security"). This change is affective but I am still getting the same message when I try to upload an image.
Any suggestions? I have read the FAQ carefully & looked for a similar post but am still not sure what to do.
Thank you for your time & I look forward to using PP,
~bearZ

Now I am getting the same message as in the FAQ, but am still unsure why.
Warning: imagejpeg(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/someuser/someuser/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/includes/functions.php on line 92
Warning: chmod(): No such file or directory in /home/someuser/someuser/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/includes/functions.php on line 94
It can't be the mod_security apache module it must be soemthing else....
*goes back to work on it more*

Hi Connie,
Thank you for the speedy reply! Here is the info you asked for:
PHP-version 4.3.10 (Pixelpost's min requirement: PHP version 4.3.0)
MySQL version 4.0.24-log (Pixelpost's min requirement: MySQL 3.23.58)
GD-lib bundled (2.0.28 compatible)
Server software Apache/1.3.31 (Unix) DAV/1.0.3 mod_gzip/1.3.26.1a PHP/4.3.10 mod_ssl/2.8.19 OpenSSL/0.9.6c
EXIF Pixelpost is using exifer v1.5 for EXIF information.
I think my actual problem may be with this:
Guessed imagepath: /home/user/bearzimages.com/cgi-systemimages/
I do not know if this imagepath exists...??? (I am new at this but trying to learn.)
Thank you for you interest so far. Any suggestions?
Cheers,
bearZ
Your image path is most likely wrong. You need to find the full path to your images and update it in the admin panel. You might be able to get the proper path from your FTP program. If you can telnet or ssh in, do a pwd on the command line to tell you the full path to your present working directory.

Hello again,
I did as you suggested: ssh-ed in, used "pwd" & I *do* seem to have the overall right path.
These are my paths as listed from the admin panel:
Guessed imagepath: /home/someuser/bearzimages.com/cgi-systemimages/
Configured Imagepath /home/someuser/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/
Image Directory: OK - Can we write to the directory? YES.
Thumbnails Directory: OK - Can we write to the directory? YES.
Language Directory: OK
Addons Directory: OK
Includes Directory: OK
Templates Directory: OK
*****************************
Please note the first one: Guessed imagepath: /home/someuser/bearzimages.com/cgi-systemimages/
I don't know where the "cgi-system" part of "/cgi-systemimages/" is coming from. I didn't put that in & that may be what is keeping it from working?? Is there some part of PP that might be putting it in? Or something I unknowingly did while installing PP?
When I try to upload an image I still get:
Warning: imagejpeg(): supplied argument is not a valid Image resource in /home/someuser/someuser/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/includes/functions.php on line 92
Warning: chmod(): No such file or directory in /home/someuser/someuser/bearzimages.com/pixelpost/includes/functions.php on line 94
The image *is* uploaded but not to the image folder & there is no thumbnail created. If I manually move the image w/ FTP to the image folder, then it shows up. Comments & everything else are working okay. I have tried installing PP on another domain of mine & get the same exact issue.
Any thoughts?
Thank you again,
~bearZ
try removing the cgi-system from the path. I don't know how that got there, but I don't think it is right ;)

Hello again Rob,
I agree, I don't think it is right either, but I don't know how it got there, as I didn't put it there. :(
I keep re-entering the correct image path on the "Options" page but when I go to "General Info" it still says:
Guessed imagepath: /home/user/bearzimages.com/cgi-systemimages/
There is no a "Guessed Imagepath" field on the "Options" page, so I don't know how to change it for that 1 setting?
As for all the other paths/settings, according to "General Info," they are all correct & all other functions (such as comments) work fine. I have the correct path, but I am really stumped as to where the cgi-systems part keeps coming from. :?
?????????? It is a mystery to me.
Thank for your time thus far,
~bearz

*gentle bump*
Any thoughts? I am still having the problem....
I have checked & rechecked. I have just upgraded to 1.4.1 & it persists. As far as I can tell, I have installed & set up everything properly......??????
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,

^^bump for me as well...
i'm running into the same issue with the warning messages. i think this is just a problem with dreamhost and will not be fixed unless they make changes.
to get rid of the "cgi-system", i believe you have to login to dreamhost, go to 'domains/web' and 'edit' your domain.
you'll see a couple checkboxes that are most likely checked:
Run PHP as CGI? [i think this is the cause of the "cgi-system" path]
and
Extra Web Security? [unchecking this supposedly will allow pixelpost's scripts to properly run]
so at this point, both those options are unchecked. the guessed path is guessing correctly and everything else is fine:
Guessed imagepath: /home/jplee3/jermdawg.com/photos/images/
Configured Imagepath /home/jplee3/jermdawg.com/photos/
Image Directory: OK - Can we write to the directory? YES.
Thumbnails Directory: OK - Can we write to the directory? YES.
Language Directory: OK
Addons Directory: OK
Includes Directory: OK
Templates Directory: OK
--- but i still get those darned warnings about certain functions not working properly. so i really think dreamhost is just being paranoid about things. i installed pixelpost on my personal server at home and it runs perfectly.
i think dreamhost just makes it so that only users can initiate changes. it looks like the functions.php script is trying to chmod files, and so dreamhost blocks this. ugh...

argh... if this is how dreamhost is gonna be, maybe there's a way to add another function or script that would move the .jpg from the /pixelpost dir into the /images dir and then create a thumbnail for it.
haha, that would be a very shoddy workaround.

hi jplee3,
Thanks for replying! I am oh so glad to know that I am not the only one on dreamhost running into this. I had begun thinking it was something along these lines as well.
I want to write to dreamhost to ask them if they can correct this problem, but I am a little unsure as to what to say/how to word it. Do you have any suggestions? Have you written to them about it? & have you gotten a reply?
Any info would be appreciated & helpful.
Thanks again, cheers!

For any one interested or who needs the info, after following jplee3's suggestion, this is the *new* error message that I get:
Warning: move_uploaded_file(/home/user/bearzimages.com/20050426061048_inspired_by_mucha.jpg): failed to open stream: Permission denied in /home/user/user/bearzimages.com/admin/index.php on line 417
Warning:
move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpQQLvrk' to '/home/user/bearziamges.com/20050426061048_inspired_by_mucha.jpg' in /home/user/user/bearzimages.com/admin/index.php on line 417
Error
Upload went without error.
******
In reality nothing was uploaded at all. Also, all of my paths now are correct.
It must be dreamhost. :( I hope I can get it to work, I really love PP & want to use it!!!

It seems that your hosting company have problems with support of /tmp dir.
Maybe there is not free space (/tmp) or something else is making such effect??

i looked around on my server and space shouldn't be an issue. bearz and i are probably on different servers as well, so a 'global' problem like this shouldn't be limited by space.
bearz, i think the errors you're getting now are little different than what i'm seeing. basically, i'm still seeing the same error messages as before. but nothing about with "uploaded" or "uploads"
again, i *think* dreamhost locks down intradirectory transfers by scripts. or that's what it really seems like, if possible.
anyway, i don't know if you can request for them to change this. this is probably a server policy on their side and they'd tell you that it's pixelpost's fault [this is, in essence, what they told me when i first contacted them]. i emailed them back pointing out the pixelpost faq mentioning their policy and they have yet to respond ;)
thanks,
jeremy

actually, i checked the directory tree again and it looks like /tmp is symlinked to /usr/local/tmp
but the permissions on /usr/local/tmp are 777 and with chown/chgrp as 'root' --- i'm able to cp files from tmp to my ~ dir. but i doubt i can move anything in /tmp over.
does pixelpost ever try to 'mv' anything from /tmp?
(i.e. "move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpQQLvrk' to...")

I think some of the supporters of dreamhost should tell what they do, configuring their webhosting packages
it dreamhost such a big company? Is it so cheap? There are other hosters out there as well, which are cheap, but do a good job
I think it will not be our job to write addons or modifications for crazy configured hosts, I am tired of dreamhost, it's not dream, it's nightmare

well, hopefully the 'nightmare' will be over for me whenever my 1 year of $7 webhosting is up.
i'm planning on switching anyway since dreamhost wants $100+ for renewal for another year! with this kind of support and complete lockdown, NO WAY!
$7 is pretty darn cheap though, so i can't complain too much. now i just need to start looking out for good/better hosting in a similar price range.
