Hi there,
I've just loaded up the current version of pixelpost for the first time and the whole installation shebang worked perfectly, got the email with the login credentials; but when I try the url - http://www.lahdeedahltd.com.au/photoblog/admin/ - the admin page is blank. I've also tried /admin/index.php, and same thing.
I did a search through these forums, and haven't found anyone who has this exact problem. I have tried other files within the admin folder like catergories (/admin/categories.php) and I get "try another day!", so from what I understand, the files uploaded correctly. I have also tried deleting and reloading the admin folder via ftp and that hasn't worked either.
I'm just a photographer who wants to set up his first photoblog, and don't have any web/html experience, so please, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Alex Weltlinger.

Remove the askimet addons. Did you upgrade or is it a fresh install?

Fresh install.
I just tried deleting the _askimet folder in addons, but it had no effect.
If I go to the homepage - www.lahdeedahltd.com.au/photoblog, there is a placeholder saying "Coming Soon! Nothing to show. No image to show here or they are set to show in future!", but neither /admin nor /admin/index.php nor /admin/index.html are showing awything - just a blank white page.

Perhaps it is a stupid question, but are there files in the admin folder? Sometimes FTP clients will screw up. Do you have an .htaccess file in the folder?

Yes, there's stuff in the admin folder - everything that was in the download (which I've downloaded several times just in case - it's all the same). There's no .htaccess file in any of the downloads. Matter of fact, I did a search of my entire system and there's no file with that name anywhere. Is that the exact file name?

.htaccess is a hidden file normally and if you're on linux, then yes, that is the correct name.

No, I'm on Mac OSX 10.5.4 and there's definitely no .htaccess file. Is it under a different name?
If not, what's the next step please?

If not, what's the next step please?
Contacting your hosting company might be a good one.

Based on information just received I would suggest checking the open_basedir directive.

Hey Dennis,
Thanks for the support so far.
I have contacted my hosting company (Media Temple for your information) and according to them, everything is working from their end.
Unfortunately, I have absolutely no idea how to check the open_basedir directive - I don't even know what that is. I'm just a photographer who wants a photoblog, not a web developer...

open the index.php file in your admin folder with an ascii editor and change the line:
error_reporting(0);
to
error_reporting(E_ALL);

I'm sorry, but I have no idea what an ascii editor is? However, having a lot of programs on my computer (CS3 production suite, final cut studio etc etc), I hopefully have something that I can use.

I suggest Notepad++, which is excellent and free.

remove all addons related to 12CropImage. Starting with addons/admin_12CropImage.php

From what I can tell, Notepad is a windows only program. I'm on a mac.
Any other recommendations? Remember, I don't know what I'm doing here; I have absolutely no programming knowledge.

Alex -
You should have TextEdit already installed - that can be used as a plain text (ascii) editor to edit the Pixelpost files. Make sure you follow the instructions on this page (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106212) to set the preferences to use it as a plain text editor. The file encoding should be set to UTF-8.
Hope this helps!

Ok. As far as I know, I followed all the settings correctly from the set up tutorial. And I changed the line of code as explained.
However, when going to the admin page, I get this:
Warning: main(includes/functions.php) [function.main]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /nfs/c02/h04/mnt/41084/domains/lahdeedahltd.com.au/html/photoblog/admin/index.php on line 52

Fatal error: main() [function.require]: Failed opening required 'includes/functions.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php-4.4.8-1/share/pear') in /nfs/c02/h04/mnt/41084/domains/lahdeedahltd.com.au/html/photoblog/admin/index.php on line 52
What do I do now please?
If you want to view the error messages at their source, the page again is www.lahdeedahltd.com.au/photoblog/admin

The fatal error is telling you that the file 'includes/functions.php' does not exist on your server.
Open your FTP program and go to the photoblog/includes folder and see if there is a file in there called functions.php. If it's not there, then some of the files were not uploaded when you did it the first time. You'll have to reupload the missing files.

Checked the folder - functions.php is there. I tried reloading the entire 'includes' folder, but am getting exactly the same error notices as I posted earlier.

Ask your hosting company about the open_basedir directive in PHP. Pixelpost tries to include a file outside this setting and it fails.
Your hosting company can correct this.

Hosting company says it's got nothing to do with the open_basedir directive in PHP. They reckon there's a problem in the code I've uploaded.
Error messages currently read:

Make sure that you have uploaded all necessary files with the exact same names as mentioned here.
I'm getting a bit to the end of my tether here. Was under the impression that pixelpost iis very easy to use. I'm no tech Neanderthal, but coding and php stuff is beyond my experience. Still, I assumed that anybody with a decent understanding of software would be able to put this up. Am I mistaken? Or just unlucky?

One resolution, please give me temporarily access to your FTP server. That way I can debug much faster.
Pixelpost is easy to use, provided certain settings are in order.
