I have a question, do I have to upload the folder "modified" also? or just the files that are inside? :?:
thanks guys for improving Pixelpost :D

the modified folder should not be there! it was there in the developing phase and it seems it's left out there!

don't let it bother you. it is not necessary to be there and doing nothing. delete it or not copy it.

thanks :)
but now I'm getting the following error when I try to install the new version:
Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) in /cdcv2/www/schuppi/html/blog/admin/install.php on line 38
Error: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2) it had never happened before :(

great work again, thank you all!

just a thought:
personally i would really like to know which files have changed from one version to another. so i would not have to copy all the files each time. some additional lines listing the files that have changed in the changelog.txt would be nice!

Michael,

that is good suggestion!

and the folder "modified" is deleted, now it should be very ok

looks like the mysql deamon is not running.
it was a problem with the server  everything works fine now... but I would like to know if it's necessary to delete /includes/pixelpost.php and admin/install.php after I updated to the new version (I always used to do that). Also, in the admin section when I check for the newest pixelpost version this appears:
Warning: file_get_contents(): URL file-access is disabled in the server configuration in /cdcv2/www/schuppi/html/blog/admin/index.php on line 885
Warning: file_get_contents(http://www.pixelpost.org/service/version.txt): failed to open stream: no suitable wrapper could be found in /cdcv2/www/schuppi/html/blog/admin/index.php on line 885

Schuppi,

when I check from my installation, I get the information:

Latest pixelpost version: 1.4.1 - Go to the pixelpost site

and that is exactly what is in the version-info-text..

sometimes some servers do not allow to include files from another server, so this must be the reason, as the admin/index.php reads the content of a file at pixelpost.org into the actual website...

Ok, had a little bumpy ride because my FTP program was messing around with me...but it works, very nice!

I hate updating. I made many, many changes to index.php to make Pixelpost behave like it want it to.

Is this update recommended?

blinking8s

well, generally updates fix bugs, if nothing bothers you about the current pixelpost version you are running then you obviously dont need to update, but we releases them as we see fit, so as a dev team we advise to update to stay current with pixelpost features and support.

Connie

and another suggestion:

try to integrate your modifications as ADD ONS, not as a mod of index.php

we do not recommend to modify index.php, this will get problems with updates as you see...

Okay.

Isnt there a better way to develop the software, so I can make changes to pixelpost without having to cut&paste changes every time? :(

yes. like Connie said. include your modifications as addons.

I updated all the old PP files on my server with all of he new files in the update. When I attempt to log in to the admin page I get an error message which I do not understand:

Warning: mysql_connect(): Access denied for user: 'replace_me@localhost' (Using password: YES) in /home/ohdanny2/public_html/blog/includes/functions.php on line 163
Error: Access denied for user: 'replace_me@localhost' (Using password: YES)

Any ideas?

double and triple check your pixelpost php, looks like the db info might be wrong to me

GeoS

Probably this file was also "updated" :) It is good idea to change DB config file in PP distribution to pixelpost-default.php or something like that. If someone make just update it won't be a problem with overwrite DB config file.
All new users should read install file in docs and then they will know what to do with this file.

Other solution is to make an "installator" for PP. It can detect if we are making an update or install new photoblog.

Whew! Ok. Got it. Pixelpost.php was the file that needed to be updated manually (because I didn't follow directions) with the username, password, etc. etc.

Man, I don't know #@*% about this stuff! Thanks for directing and chiding me GeoS and blinking8s

Spoke too soon. http://ohdanny.net/blog gives me this:

Error: Access denied for user: 'ohdanny2_ohdanny@localhost' (Using password: YES)

next?

pixelpost.php is still wrong most likely...triple check the information you put it in

please post in the help section from now on though

the admin demo does not work?

blinking8s
07-12-2005, 08:09 AM
the admin demo is not public for pixelpost 1.4.1 as we were slammed by some nasty spam and many changes were made, follow by us being pressed for time for pixelpost.

A public version will follow soon though, check your PM for the moment
