Incorporating a photoblog into a larger website
 

Hi all,

I've had my photoblog running for a few years now (http://www.thepequod.org.uk/photos/photoblog/index.php), and am very happy with the design (using the excellent Macstyle template).

However, the photoblog is part of a larger site (http://www.thepequod.org.uk), which includes a weblog, essays and other writing.

Whilst traffic across the site as a whole is quite good, I notice that there is very little transfer between the literary and photographic components. Visitors browse the photoblog, but do not delve into the blog. Conversely, people read an essay or blog post, but do not visit the photoblog.

I can't believe it's because people are not interested in both, and whilst it could simply be that my work isn't good enough to sustain peoples' interest (I hope this isn't the case!), my hunch is that there's a problem with my design on the main part and the photoblog part which is stopping the cross-promotion of the two.

Does anyone have any experience of designing mixed-media websites? Or do those of you who blog and photoblog try to keep the two sites separate? Perhaps I'm trying to cram too many eggs into one digital basket?

I'm happy with the clean look of both the main and photoblog design, and would hate to mess them up with flashing banners advertising content on the other. On the other hand, some of you may know a few little tricks (e.g. neat javascripts) which can help users to navigate across the spread of its content.
