Addon request; Enable/Disable images

Im not sure if this already exists, but I don't think it does. Could someone make (Or point me to if it already exists) an addon that allows you to enable and disable images. I want to upload all my photographs, but be able to disable/enable the images from showing on the site without having to delete them. Any ideas or suggestions?

Currently the only method to "disable" an image without deleting it is to set the publish date on the photo to a future date. Say the year 2020.

That way it is still visible to you, the admin, but completely hidden from visitors.

Thanks for the reply. I've put the development of my site on the backburner while I have uploaded my entire back catalogue of photos. But now I really could do with an enable/disable option. The method you suggested jaywilliams will work, but isn't entirely ideal. One problem with it, is that it will move all the 'disabled' images to the top of the admin panel. Is there any way I can get a link to say; show category 1 but NOT category 2. This would enable me to make a category called 'disabled'(2). It would also allow me to filter images better by doing things like; show wildlife but not birds. Any ideas?

Just a slight bump of this thread. Has anyone worked out another method for disabling images? One think I want to add, is that ideally I would be able to link to the image, so I can use it for easy hosting on forums etc, but it not appear in the gallery. Any ideas?

If you're looking to host photos for posting within forums then it does not make sense to upload them into Pixelpost.

You would be better off using your FTP client to upload the photos in to a specific folder which you can then link directly to the image.

No, because I also post the pictures on my website using pixelpost. The site in question is; www.afowler.co.uk

I upload all of my decent shots with pixelpost to my website and categorize them during upload. I then ocasionally link from my website to forums. I want to be able to remove some of the pictures from my website gallery, but still be able to link to them on forums, but most of all I would like to be able to remove them from the gallery, but still have them within the pixelpost system, so they remain categorized etc and the collection is complete as an archive.

Uploading the images from pixelpost makes it much easier for me than using an FTP client, as I would need to have 2 uploading processes and wouldn't be able to categorize them. Also at the moment, it is very easy to retreive the url for a file, which would be more fiddly if I used FTP to send them.

Ideally I would like 2 things in the admin panel of pixelpost;

An enable/disable toggle for each image, which simply removes it from the user end of the website, but keeps everything else intact, including its position and catagories withing the admin panel.

And a box containing the absolute url of the image file.

If I had those 2 things, by life would be more complete. ;)

I see...

To accomplish the enable/disable as you would want it would require extensive hacking to your pixelpost photoblog. It can be done but it would take quite some time and future updates would not apply to you as an update after such a huge modification would surly break the functionality.

As for #2, i believe there is already an addon out there that does this. If not, one can be easily created.

Take a look at this addon which should fulfill your second request, http://www.pixelpost.org/extend/addo...for-pixelpost/

Thanks for the link. That's half my problem sorted. Is there any chance my main problem/feature could make its way in to a future release or be made in to an addon? Other than this problem, pixelpost combined with a bit of jiggery pokery has provided me with everything I need in a website. I am however stuck at this last hurdle. :(

Edit; Oh and something else I would to see changed; when you recrop an image, I would like it if it took you back to that image in the admin panel, not back to the images list like it does at present. It doesn't matter hugely, but it does mean an extra click when you are uploading loads of pictures. Just a suggestion. :)

I'm going to say no to both. Such a request is beyond the capabilities of a Pixelpost addon and as far as I'm concerned, the next release of Pixelpost is capped... No more features as of yet. Just bug fixes and performance tweaks...
