i cant stand fireworks for photography, but anyways...try making a copy of the file, edit what you want, maintain it on one layer, and then save it (over it)...dont save as or save for web which will wipe the exif on older software normally,

and what version of fireworks are you using, def check if exif is supported, i dont see why it wouldnt be on mx 04 at least...it appears that it doesnt, but there are plugins out there that will preserve the exif data...

just search "macromedia fireworks exif" in google and read as much as you can i guess...of course check the macromedia fireworks site first though
