Date name not showing all the time

I am using the following drop downs on my browse template:

<BROWSE_CATEGORIES>
<BROWSE_MONTHLY_ARCHIVE_PAGED>

I added the display name of the current category to the top of the page using:

<CATEGORY_OR_DATE_NAME_PAGED_ARCHIVE>

Here's the problem: When I click on a category the name displays just fine. However, sometimes the name of the date does not show when I choose a date from the other drop down (e.g., September 2005).

If I choose 'All' from the date archive drop down it seems to reset and will then show the months as I cycle through them. But as soon as I choose a catergory it reverts to not showing the date the next time I choose it.
