Picture size

I am trying to establish a standard size for my pictures. Can anybody tell me what sizes they are using ie 800 x 600 pixels etc, in both portait and landscape mode.

Another question, does it bother anybody that they have to scroll down in order to look at a picture in portrait mode. Sometimes it bothers me and sometimes it doesn't.

thanks

normal = 700px wide
tall = 450px wide 650px high
square = 550px wide

that's what i use always. for me the perfect medium between load time and quality of size.

Similar for me too:

800px on the "long" side in either portrait or landscape.

Most of my shots are cropped 8x12.

And agree about the load time vs quality. Also at this size they are reasonably useless if "borrowed" by someone.

although 800px will require somebody running 800x600 to have to scroll your photos.

Good point, but just looking only around 4% of the visitors to my site are using 800x600.

Around 70% use either 1024x768 or 1280x1024.

Off track I know but I was surprised to see almost half of the visitors are now using Firefox!

I started out with a "standard size" of 500x375 but I found that some images just needed to be a bit bigger.

I post images no larger than 800x600 to help keep the load time down as much as possible.

I like to keep a standard vertical size (ie. 450), both for vertical and horizontal pics. This way, the template does not jump around when you switch from vertical to horizontal, or from a 2x3 ratio to a 3x4. Depends on your template of course.

link below not a very good proof of concept as far as the latest pictures published are concerned
