Gallery script?

I want to set up web page where I and a few other friends can post photos we take during our trips. It's going to be a "photography" website, so we want to have a great design. Everything will be done by myself since I am the only one who knows a few things about managing/building a website.

What I'm considering regarding the web script:
- use of php/mysl;
- it must have multi-user support;
- it must support categories/subcategories;
- support of keywords;
- search option is a must;
- it must support themes so I can customize the look as I want; I prefer scripts which use basic html-build themes(no scripting) like Pixelpost's themes. But in the end I'm willing to learn php if other conditions are met.

I've tried Gallery so far, but building a custom theme kind of gives me headaches.

Thanks in advance for your answers.

PS. I've read somewhere on this forum that Pixelpost 2.0 will have multi-user support and other few new facilities. Do you plan a release soon?

This isn't a full reply to your questions, but I wanted to you know that Pixelpost v2.0 is just starting, and probably won't be ready until at least 2009. So don't count on using that for a while. Btw, I love your avatar, River Tam is great!

I've asked on some other forums too and it seems that I have a just a few options left as website engine. Anyway, I should start learning php to get better results.

Thanks, Jay, for the reply.

PS. Summer Glau became my favourite actress since Firefly & Serenity. I hope she will get some decent roles in the future like Serenity or The 4400.

In my opinion many great works of software try to become everything for everyone.. and they become bloated and ruined. Pixelpost is by far the best photoblog script in the world.. I've spent years trying them ALL. Pixelpost does what it does very very well. I fear people putting pressure on the developers and then they start adding all kinds of features, bells and whistles beyond the scope of a purists photo blog. It happens with all kinds of software - I have seen it time and time again. I like to remind the develops to keep Pixelpost lean and focused - doing one thing well. So far do good (if people want to add features use plug-ins... don't pollute the original code !!!) Just one mans opinion !!!! Thanks for listening

You are definitely right! I can say myself that I tried almost every free photo script on the web and... guess what!

In the end, my choice was pixelpost with some addons and some customizations made.

All the best!
