Thanks for the great template, it's my favourite one. I found what seems to be a bug with the template. On firefox (Windows XP-Vista / Mac 10.5 / Ubuntu 8.10), when viewing the homepage (image_template.html), it uses the cpu up to 100% (depending the computer). I found that if I remove the ImageFader script, it uses about 50% more cpu than normal. No problems in IE, Safari, Google Chrome or Opera, with or without the fader.
I dont know if it's a bug on firefox side, or in the template, but the ImageFader use lots of cpu time, even if the image is fully loaded, and without the ImageFader, it still uses way more cpu than on other browsers. I received few emails of people complaining that when they visit my website on laptop, cpu fan kicks in at full speed. The problem appears to be only on image_template page, on Browse or About cpu % drops down to 0-8%. |

Image fade scripts can be quite CPU intensive, especially with long fades dealing with large photos. You could try and find if you can lower the FPS of the effect, which should lower the CPU usage but at the cost of making the animation a bit less smooth.

That's what I've done. I disabled the fader effect. But even with the fader effect disabled, here's my system monitor.
I opened firefox with google, took 1st screenshot, then changed url to my website. Then I tried ubbedall template on his website, and dark matter template on mine. With google website in firefox: with my website on raia template: With http://www.ubbedall.dk/Raia/ My website with Dark Matter template I found that the problem seems to be the way firefox render webpages. If firefox window is minimized, cpu drops to normal. And when firefox is maximized on screen, then cpu is 50-60%. The fact that the template use some div on top of each other, and shadow seems to make firefox go crazy on cpu. It doesnt seem to affect other browser, so let's hope it'll be fixed in a future firefox release Last edited by mightydrake; 12-10-2008 at 03:19 PM. |

Wow, those are some amazing stats. I find it most interesting to see how efficient the Dark Matter code is executed. As that template has an image fader as well. I wonder, is it more efficient due to the JS framework used, or is it something else, like the length of the effect causing it to be less CPU intensive?

Hi Ubbe,
as I am new to Pixelpost, could you please tell me, where I can change the background colour (light green) of this template? Did you already solve the problem with centering the images? Thanks for help! Regards, Andreas |
