Seeing as how the traditional photographer must always adapt, I'm steering away from the idea of selling my photo's through a watermarked, right-click protected site and wanting to try another technique and I think PP can evolve into.
I'd like to give my customers free personal websites using the unique database naming i.e. username_ and allow the user to control which images display on the portfolio as well as other functions, like themes and add-ons. It is an inviting tactic to take some photos for a client, charge for the session, and then tell them that they will have an inclusive personal site at "yourname.mysite.com". I then can use banner advertising as well as product offerings like calendars, posters, etc. to generate revenue for my work. Hmmm, maybe ad an annual fee to remove the banners too. The customer never pays for access to the cropped photo's, say 1900X1200 but if they want the hi-def versions, they can enter my store. For this to work, it would be advantageous to be able to create multiple user login accounts and then via the 'master' admin account, choose which functions the users are allowed to access. Most installs would only have 2 users...the primary with limited function, then the master with full access. Initially, I may give the clients access to moderating comments and organizing photos into categories. Maybe mod a "slideshow" template page where they can choose which photos in the collection are part of the slideshow. There is a ton of potential here. I'd like some feedback from the community on this. |
