Multiple Thumbnails

Is it possible to create multiple thumbnails of images from within PP? Either with a plugin or by default? From my searching so far, the answer seems to border on a not really.

I'm in the process of overhauling my site and essentially what I'm looking to do is on the images handled with image_template.html, I want to have thumbnails around the size of 150h by 270w (for the image browser). Then, on the rest of the site, like on the browse_template.html, I want my standard 75wx100h to be used.

I know I could resize my thumbs to the larger size and scale down for the archives, but obviously that creates an issue with size and load times (especially since my archives already loads a lot of thumbs).

So is there anything I could do? Please help as the direction of where I see my design going hinges on it! Thanks!
