first Macro

Well, here's my first macro with my new Sigma Macro Lens!!

http://www.mikelangelo.com/blog/index.php?showimage=237

(I admit, it's not very interesting...but I had to do SOMETHING!)

The lens seems to be really cool. But I've only tried to take a few pics and already it's given me a couple errors. Since I bought it used from B&H photo, there was no manual with it. I'm using it with my Canon 300D. I wonder if there's a problem there... I'd hate to have to return it!

Don't know...but it appears the lens is incompatible with my Digital Rebel? Not really sure. I'm going to take it to a camera shop and have them try it on a couple other bodies and see if it works there. Either I'm a dufus and don't know what I'm doing... or this lens/body combo ain't happenin'. *whimper, sniff, sniff*

Focuses ok. Takes a while sometimes...but it focuses. Once I depress the shutter... I get an "ERR 99" on the camera LCD. sigh.

WOO HOO!!!!!! sigh... sometimes... I just feel like a dufus. I took my new lens to Wolf camera. put it on my camera to 'demonstrate' my problem... and it worked beautifully. I'm guessing I just didn't have the lens properly secured on the body when I first tried it out. sigh. Which means I get to go out and take LOTS of macro shots. heh heh.

Thanks for the feedback Zach-E2!!

That was actually the first thing I did think of. It would have been smart of me to re-seat the lens and try it again before I panicked, though. ;-)

now I'm just feeling like an idiot. Lens ain't working again. It seems to work mariginally when I have the camera mode set to "P." Manual, Tv, Av, or anything else gives me errors. No, this will not do... not do at all.

I think B&H will get this back... Sigma did offer to rechip it for free...but I think I'll just save my money and get a Canon Macro Lens. sigh.

My buddy actually JUST bought that one today for his Nikon. Tamron 90mm Macro, I believe. I can't test it on my Canon..but at least I can see how well it works.

I'm currently 'calculating' for when my next freelance checks come in to get the canon Macro. At $470... it's not too bad, I suppose. Since I'm getting a refund on the Sigma... maybe I can get it in a couple of weeks... we'll see.
