Character encoding

First, thank you for this great script. Extremely efficient.

But to the character encoding. I know this has probably been addressed before but I didn't find any solution.

My only problem with this script, really:

I have PP 1.4.2 and...

If i keep the character encoding UTF-8 everything renders perfectly from everywhere inside the script, so me being icelandic and wanting some icelandic special characters without coding them everytime this is good. However all the icelandic characters I enter into my template files themselves come out as questionmarks. What is supposed to be "Garðabrúða" comes out as " Garabra"

Now. If i change the character encoding to iso-8859-1 the special characters in the template files are fine but icelandic characters from the script itself, for example the SITE_TITLE and the IMAGE_NAME tag come out horribly. What is supposed to be "Garðabrúða" renders as "Garðabrúða".

Does anybody know how to do something about this?

I don't really have access to my database, this installation was just set up for me to play with through my ftp.

please give us the URL of your site, otherwise I cannot check anything.

But: our in- and output is completely in UTF-8, so your templates must be in UTF-8 as well.

I do not see any reason why icelandic should be different, UTF handles icelandic characters

so I would like to see the sourcecode of your webpage
please give us the URL

You must recode your template from ISO-8859-1 to UTF-8. There are many translators in the internet (use google.com to find them).

and another point: what is the character encoding set in your browser?

You should set it to "automatic recognise character encoding" and not to a special codeset
