feedback needed..

As complete beginner, it's difficult to judge whether a shot is good or crap...
So, feedback from pro's is very helpful...
In order to improve my skills, it would be very friendly and handy to tell me why the picture is good/bad...

I like it when people post a specific image they want critique on here, and use the forums img tags, i dont like to go on a goat goose chase and have to come back to the forum to give a public comment. This area is for photo help really, not to get comments on your blog, same result but it's more defined to discussion here.

composition is solid, what it lacks is contrast and power. I dont like the manhole cover, but such is life. What I want to see is a similar composed shot, late afternoon, with a dramatic shadow and the pattern of those bricks...could be really cool no?

Good framing of your subject, the manhole really takes away from the nice pattern you had going with the bricks. Agree with Blinkings that you may want to look at this early morning or late afternoon to get a nice long shadow, and better light. Could use a little contrast as well. Solid image though.

First of all, thanks for the remarks!
Second, I'm glad with the remark that the composition of the picture is ok. Know that the picture was taken from a bridge and that child was walking underneath. What I want to say is that I only had a few seconds to take the picture and the composition was the only thing I looked at. Still a dummie.. remember? ;-)
Third, the idea's proposed are intresting indeed. I will give them a try!

What I would like to have seen is a late afternoon shot (golden light) with the person just entering the frame and the persons shadow stretching out across the picture along with the shadow depth of the bricks... Love those bricks.
Maybe you could keep coming back and catching it at all times of the day with slow exposures so the people blur but the bricks are sharp....
