Wishlist : simple statistics

What I would find useful is a simple addon creating a page (possibly in the admin panel) listing whatever information pixelpost records from visitors.

I currently get the number of visitors this month and to date, but I guess PP knows much more than that. I'm not sure how much.

It would be a minimalist stats page, but would give enough basic information for basic needs, as stats packages require installation, modification of code, and some of them are overkill (Google Analytics).

It may also be useful to spot unusual traffic (spam alerts).

Any view on this idea ?

you mention google analytics as overkill, but it's free. which is handy. I use google, and I love it. I only use a fraction of the functionality...but being free, it's pretty neat.

That being said, an addon that collects data straight from PP sounds intriguing.

Look into Mint (www.haveamint.com) and the Pixelpost pepper plugin (say that 2 times fast).

we could always look into doing something statsy - but that would be an addon now. the team has had bad experiences with juts our counting of visitors etc. you'll get far more reliable results from a stats package. and anyway, we really are trying our best to keep pixelpost as a simple photoblog application and not totally overload it with unecessary features.

Thank you all for your feedback and ideas. Didn't get back to you earlier as I was forbidden to post for some unknown reason…

Mint looks really nice (gets expensive if you have several blogs), but I could not find the Pixelpost pepper plugin, could you give me a link, Paul ?

I must say I'm confused about this business of counting visitors and different ways to compute the results.

In the OPTIONS panel, there is a line asking whether we want PP to "book information of every visitor". What is this for ? Which information is booked, where and what can I do with it ?

in your database there is a table called '_visitors' which basically records basic info about your visitors including ip address and referer. but when i say basic i mean basic to the point that most people won't want to waste database space with it so we gave the option to turn this recording off.
