Comments - disabling

Please do not tell me to do a search. Just spent half the night doing that search for how to disable comments - read scores of posts with no real answer of how do disable comments.

Anyone know how?

Getting spammed like crazy

I am not sure what you mean by "as vernon show you"

I searched for "disable comments" and found a lot of questions but few answers. Same thing when I searched for "no comments" and "disallow comments"

I am open to suggestions from you as to how to use the search option in a better way.

I am using the newest version of pixpelpost and captcha - still getting a LOT of spam.

All I want to do is find instructions about how to disable comments. Not just the comment link but the comment URL so the spam bots will go away.

Maybe the FAQ should be added to the FAQ's

I'm having an issue trying ANY of the methods described for disabling comments. I just deleted over 300 megabytes worth of spam today, that's built up over the past few months, and I'm not gonna take it anymore.
Unfortunately, it seems like any time I edit my index.php, everything stops working, even if I edit to right back to exactly how it was before. I have to reupload the backup to get it to work again.
Any adjustments just return "Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_DNUMBER in /home/yourfavo/public_html/photoblog/index.php on line 569", when I go to my main photoblog. Though the number of the line varies on where I'm trying to edit the file. I've tried every method for disabling comments on that I could find on this whole forum, but everything just screws up the index.
Any ideas on why this is happening?

Mostly this is a parse error caused by an error in your PHP file. Please check for missing ; or unescaped " .
