sophiepasquet.com PP goes final...
After almost nine months of on and off tinkering with PixelPost, my wife has finally removed the "beta" from her photoblog and has begun treating it as her home page. We have received a lot of email since starting this from people asking for info on the template and the addons so I thought I would describe them here and then point people to this post. Here goes:
1) The template is based on the original "simple" template, customized a little bit, but not much really. I don't think we are prepared to share the templates outright, but the changes are pretty simple and we will not harass anyone who goes through the trouble of duplicating them. 2) The main addons used are: a) GEOS Show Category (to limit image browsing to selected category);(I wrote the Projects and Buy addon myself and have recently submitted the Buy addon for approval and distribution as an addon. The one on the site is a little more sophisticated than the one I uploaded because the one on the site involves new dbase fields that allow us to turn on and off availability for certain sizes. The version running the site also calculates the aspect ratio and returns the right measurements and price accordingly). 3) The language switch is the most significant change. While I tried to turn this into an addon, I had no luck, so it remains a hack of the core files. It includes hacks that: a) switch out different language templates (for static content), b) switch out the language files (for generated content) and c) switch out database entries (for database content). For now, a) and b) changes above are documented at the following post: http://forum.pixelpost.org/showthread.php?t=3668. As for c), I am happy to share the hacked index and admin files for the dbase hack, but I can't support them. 4) The eCards are integrated via a separate php script that was bought from a guy in the UK a few years ago. I am still considering integrating it into pixelpost as an addon. Sophie's site is at http://www.sophiepasquet.com. Feedback, both on the site design and the photography, is always welcome. The language switch will actually be incorporated in the new 1.6 version. I mailed you some comments on the paypal addon: I would suggest moving all hacks (even the dbase hacks) to the addon. I gladly offer my services to help you with that.

zac, no need to do all that stuff... Pixelpost 1.6 will support different languages out of the box (and is not compatible with this hack).

Hmmm, ok thanks schonhose, I may have posted this in the wrong spot. I do not need multiple languages, just having it work in English would be fantastic. My attempt at installing the paypal addon isnt going so hot. The download on the addon pages has no information on how to create the buy_template and I am totally lost. Also there is nothing new appearing in the admin menus so I am a long ways from having any sort of shopping link at all. I look forward to the release of 1.6 but would like to have some understanding of this addon in the meantime. Are there some docs I am missing about how to get this thing running somewhat like on this example site?

Rob,
I like the eCards feature that you use on Sophie's site, well done. Specially I like how simple the site looks... My story is that I'm been looking only the eCards feature again after I used the same PHP code from PopCard (Pixeria) long time ago, used in my other personal site for sending fun ecards... Old Link here: http://www.aldocards.com or original setup from Popcard: http://www.aldocards.com/cardtest2/popcard.php As you can see I get errors when I try to send any cards now, it worked before great, now for some reason the style sheets don't work and my hosting server is GoDaddy which I think something got mess up. My Question is where can I get or buy to use the code that you create in Sophie's ecard, so that I can use it as add-on for PixelPost, which I'm trying to use it in the future. I'm a Print/CSS/Webdesigner and very little knowledge of PHP. Any help or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks Aldo |
