Browse Thumbnails : Filtered by EXIF?

I'm wanting to make certain parts of my EXIF info Clickable, so that people can see images taken under specific conditions.

For instance, I own several camera bodies. I'd like the make the EXIF for camera clickable to take me to a new template page that displays thumbnails for all images taken with that camera body.

I've tried searching to see if other people have done this, but couldn't find anything.

How hard with this be to do? If it's not that hard, I'd love for some one to help me out.

Also, if there if there is something similar already made, can someone point me to that? I'm fairly decent at taking existing code and modding it to do what I need, but I'm completely incapable of starting from scratch.

Lightbulb Custom Field Addon maybe?

I wanted to do something similar, but I wasn't sure how to query the database to get the EXIF data I wanted.

I ended up using the custom fields addon to specify what lens I used. I then made an addon that will go through those custom fields and sort them out. Here's an example. I have not gotten around to trying to hook it up to the EXIF output however.

Cool! Care to share your Addon? I may be able to get it to work with EXIF.

You are doing exactly what I am working on. I already got the Lens data into EXIF, but mine is for Nikon. Not sure if it will work with Canon or not....

You can email me at jim at jim march dot com

Wouldn't tags be a good way to solve this problem? Just tag each photo with camera body, lens, etc. Then browse by the tags.

I do tag each image with the lens I use, but I also use the custom fields addon to add the lens so it will appear with my EXIF data. But one thing I don't like about tags is the white space formatting. I can't tag it with Canon 100-400L f/4.5-5.6 for instance.

Sure, if I wanted to Tag each photo and look up the EXIF and then manually enter it on every photo....

But since the info is already there and in the database, why not just use what is there to do it automatically.

I could also create a static HTML site and make each Blog entry a static HTML page... But why?

Why is it that Kevin's solution solves your problem, but my suggestion gets met with snarky responses? Using the custom fields addon you still have to manually enter the information into a custom field thus duplicating the information in the database. My suggestion, with the one limitation Kevin pointed out regarding whitespace, does the exact same thing without the need for an addon.

Kevin's does not solve my problem either.

I've already solved the issue of getting all the information into the database. Now I just need to figure out how to filter by it.

He has figured out how to filter by custom field. My guess is that with his help, I could figure out how to filter by the information I want to filter by.

Send a message via MSN to Dennis
Perhaps I will write an addon for that, it will go nicely with my Lightroom template
