site seems a littlebit slow
I'm currently using PP version 1.7.1, but my site seems a little bit slow to me. I've tested my site in Safari and Firefox on my iBook (mac). I'm absolutely not saying this is a PP problem, but I can't find the solution to this problem and hope someone can help me here and find out whether or not the problem also occurs in other browsers/OS's.
site: http://www.blauwgestreept.nl/index.php When you visit my site, everything seems great, you will see a mill. When you navigate to the next photo ('Hollands'), everything is still ok. Then the trouble: navigate to the next photo, the gulls. For some reason, it takes some time (about 3 seconds) before the image (800 x 533, 121.15 KB) loads. This is how ik looks like here: The loading stops just before the 'www'. The same problem (but then with a 4/5 seconds waiting time) appears when navigating to the watertower picture (800 x 533, 112.508 KB, fifth from the right in thumbnail row). I changed the template and turned off some addons to see if the 'waiting time' dissapears, but unfortunately it stays.

From the times that I recored using Firebug, I'd say there are two primary causes.
1) Your current webhost is slow. (at least for me) It could be that the web server is handling too much traffic, or isn't connected to a fast enough internet connection. 2) Your template is very demanding. If you want to get the maximum speed, try using a simpler template. A slow server and a complex template only slows things down even more. Below is a chart showing you how long it took my browser to load your first image: ![]() This is how long it took my browser to load the second image: (Note the difference in load time once the browser had cached all of the layout images & thumbnails) ![]() But as you can see, even with the browser cacheing, the major slowdown is the large image. If you want to speed that up, you can either make the images smaller, or apply more JPG compression to keep the filesize down, or switch to a web host that has faster servers. Hopefully that helps.

Thx Jay, for this investigation!
The strange thing is, the problem also occurs when applying other templates like Simple or Minimal. So I think the template is not the biggest cause. Besides that, the waiting-time seems to happen only when loading specific photos (like the gulls and the watertower). I'll try to upload the whole thing to an other host (currently hosted @ E-Dentify, pakket 1) these days, I'll keep you posted!

Ok, this problem was the addon for Flickr comments. My site did work properly after I turned it off. Since yesterday however, my site is _very_ slow. Can someone mention why? Or can someone give me a tip about how to find the problem? I didn't do anything yesterday, so the problem was just there...
UPDATE: the problem seems to be PixelPost, since my stats (wich are on the same server) works fine. UPDATE 2: my host confirmed the problem has nothing to do with hosting. He says its the code... UPDATE 3: Turning of Defensio did the job, as mentioned here

Read about the fix I posted. This will probably fix it. It is in the same thread you mentioned.
