Wink Unable to turn Defensio on after error during install

Thanks for the great product.

I upgraded this morning to 1.7.1 from 1.3(?).

I didnt follow the directions totally, as I had really almost given up on the site. The comments I would get, usually 200 a day were unmanageable. I had forgotten that I enabled the Akismet spam addon.

I forgot to disable it before the upgrade. The upgrade went fine with no errors.

First problem I had, was the Addons page would not load. I read through the forum, and I fixed it by deleting the akismet addon file that was left in the directory.

The addons page began to load.

Now, the problem is that neither of the new spam addons are on.

I deleted the _akismet folder, and Defensio will not turn on.

I went into the SQL and changed the values from "off" to "on" and they show up as on with the small Defensio graphic, but no UI shows up.

I turned them back to off, and thats where I am at now.

Any help please? thanks.

Where are you looking for the UI?

I've looked on the Addons page and in the Spam Control area.. as well as generally pilfered through the site.

I couldn't find any specific instructions on where it should be. On Defensio's site it just says to get an API key and insert it, but not specifically where.

You need to turn the Defensio addons back on in order to see the Defensio UI. Once you've done that, you'll need to enter your Defensio API key.

Click on Options>>Spam Control, then scroll down to the bottom of the page. You should see a section called Defensio Settings. Enter your API key in the input field under Defensio API Key and save. The bar should turn green, telling you that your key is valid.

Excellent.

That seemingly solved my issue. I went into the SQL database and changed them to "on" and then went under Spam control and entered the API key. All things say it is up and running.

Thanks.
