User Manager
New to pixelpost, but I thought it would be a cool Idea if there was a basic User Manager. So you could have certain people access the upload page with out giving them full Admin access and maybe be able to allow them to manage a certain category. Well Also allowing them to edit/delete any comments that were made to pictures in that category.... Have no idea how hard this would be to do, but it was just an Idea that i had that I thought some other people might like.

if i wish to have co authors with admin rights (or part of admin rights) i use a gallery script (with a lot more feautures i never need for a personal picture blog). a small tool for one job that do the things right is in my eyes better, than a swiss knife with a lot of tools, but can do every job only half. i use a wiki system with other authors for writing about special interests within this group. i use a blog (wordpress) for my personal (text)blabla i use a big gallery script for a big bunch of pictures not only for/from me, with complex user managment... and i use pixelpost as my personal fotoblog the right tool for the right thing (or so) (pardon me for my ugly english) |

The thought was me and a friend were wanting to open a photoblog between the two of us. But she is not the most Computer literate person ever. So I wanted to be able to have her login and post new pictures with out access to the rest of the admin panel. So I guess it is more of just an add-on for a single user with limited access and so far PixelPost is the easiest to use Open Source Gallery of sorts I have been able to find, and it also has a very good community base.

i think its not easy to do this with a plugin, because you must extend the datastructure in the database and you need a lot of loops to check the actual permission at every action.
the better solution, in my thoughts, only share your picture blog with someone you trust enough to share the admin account too :-). a user managment, a system of categories and subcategorys, different sorting an displaying options, nice stuff ... but than it is a gallery, no blog. there are enough big full feautured gallery scripts in the world. |

well are there any good ones that you can suggest to me? I have found plenty of them but they all seem to be very lacking in one area or another. One maybe very easy to install but then the admin panel is very confusing and you have to hunt to find most of the stuff. Other may have a very good interface when it comes to the front end, but again the admin end is very hard to use and you have to spend a ton of time to install the script to then hope that you did it the correct way and if you messed it up you have to start all over. If there are any open source ones that you know of that are good looking and easy to use it would be great if you could let me know. I have a good understanding of how most of this stuff works but I do not have all of the time in the world to try and get them installed and working. I go to school and have a fun time job so it makes it very hard to get some of them working in the time that I have left over.
Thanks, highalpine |

i worked with 4images, coppermine, gallery2, phpwebgallery, zenphoto. you can also mix wordpress with a gallery plugin like nexgen or yapb. all have advantages and disadvantages, its a personal choice therefore it is difficult to give a hint. whats easy for me maybee not easy for you, whats confusing for me, maybe consistent for you. |
